Il est alors envisag\u00e9 de relier les diff\u00e9rentes gares parisiennes en les faisant passer \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de&nbsp;Paris.<\/p><p>Un certain nombre de projets sont d\u00e9pos\u00e9s&nbsp;: citons les projets Flachat et Telle (1855) : ce dernier se basait sur un r\u00e9seau enti\u00e8rement a\u00e9rien, dont les trains circuleraient \u00e0 hauteur du 1<sup class=\"ordinal\">er<\/sup> \u00e9tage des immeubles (ce qui aurait \u00ab&nbsp;barr\u00e9&nbsp;\u00bb le grandes places parisiennes par des viaducs peu esth\u00e9tiques).<\/p><p>En 1880, le projet des ing\u00e9nieurs Vauthier et Deligny reprend l\u2019id\u00e9e du projet Flachat, qui consistait prolonger les voies de la Petite Ceinture jusque dans le centre de la capitale sur un axe Nord-Sud par un trac\u00e9 souterrain, passant par Denfert-Rochereau et la place de la R\u00e9publique.<\/p><p>M\u00eame Gustave Eiffel proposera son projet en 1891, qui consistait cr\u00e9er une ligne circulaire essentiellement souterraine&nbsp;; toutefois, ce projet n\u2019\u00e9tait pas raccord\u00e9 grandes gares de chemin de fer et fut donc abandonn\u00e9.<\/p><p>Faisons \u00e9galement mention du projet pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par Paul Haag&nbsp;:&nbsp; celui-ci, continuellement remani\u00e9 de 1883 \u00e0 1895, pr\u00e9sente la particularit\u00e9 de pr\u00e9voir un <em>double r\u00e9seau m\u00e9tropolitain<\/em>.<\/p><p>D\u2019une part, un r\u00e9seau d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat g\u00e9n\u00e9ral permettant la circulation des trains des grandes lignes de chemin de fer nationaux par le centre de Paris&nbsp;; d\u2019autre part, un r\u00e9seau d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat local bas\u00e9 sur le premier pour desservir les diff\u00e9rents quartiers de la capitale.<\/p><p>Mais la Ville de Paris s\u2019oppose farouchement \u00e0 ces diff\u00e9rents projets, ne voulant pas laisser les compagnies priv\u00e9es de chemin de fer d\u00e9finir la mani\u00e8re dont la capitale doit \u00eatre desservie.<\/p><p>Celle-ci souhaite faire de son m\u00e9tropolitain un r\u00e9seau d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat exclusivement local&nbsp;; son manque complet d\u2019envergure r\u00e9gionale et nationale en est la plus grande faiblesse&nbsp;: il faudra attendre les ann\u00e9es 1960 pour qu\u2019un second r\u00e9seau, le R\u00e9seau Express R\u00e9gional (RER), vienne (partiellement) pallier \u00e0 ce manque criant.<\/p><p>Aussi, au terme de pr\u00e8s de 25 ans de d\u00e9bats acharn\u00e9s, et devant l\u2019imminence de l\u2019Exposition Universelle de 1900, l\u2019\u00c9tat finit par c\u00e9der&nbsp;: la construction du m\u00e9tro de Paris d\u00e9bute enfin, plus de 27 ans apr\u00e8s celui de Londres, inaugur\u00e9 d\u00e8s&nbsp;1863&nbsp;!<\/p><p>Ce choix d\u2019un r\u00e9seau purement local est lourd de cons\u00e9quences en termes d\u2019am\u00e9nagements urbains&nbsp;: la Petite Ceinture et le m\u00e9tro, au lieu de s\u2019appuyer l\u2019un sur l\u2019autre, se retrouvent en concurrence frontale.<\/p><p>Le m\u00e9tro, qui se cantonnera jusqu\u2019aux ann\u00e9es 1930 \u00e0 la desserte de Paris intra-muros, tient \u00e0 assurer une desserte locale (ou desserte fine) : les stations sont peu espac\u00e9es les unes des autres et les premi\u00e8res lignes peuvent davantage pr\u00e9tendre au titre de tramway souterrain que de v\u00e9ritable syst\u00e8me de transport express\u2026 ceci restant valable encore de nos&nbsp;jours.<\/p><p>Cette rivalit\u00e9 entre le m\u00e9tro de la Ville de Paris et les compagnies de chemin de fer se fait sentir jusque dans le trac\u00e9 de certaines lignes&nbsp;: il a fallu attendre 1999 et l\u2019ouverture du RER E pour que les gares Saint-Lazare et celles du Nord et de l\u2019Est soient enfin reli\u00e9es par le&nbsp;rail&nbsp;!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-afa25a0 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"afa25a0\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">D\u00e9clin et fin du trafic voyageur de la Petite Ceinture<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-583ee09 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"583ee09\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4ae1321\" data-id=\"4ae1321\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eeb8ebf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eeb8ebf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Cette concurrence frontale entre la Petite Ceinture de Paris et le m\u00e9tro est \u00e9galement de nature technologique.<\/p>\n<p>Les trains du Chemin de fer de Ceinture sont tract\u00e9s par des locomotives \u00e0 vapeur, tandis que le m\u00e9tro con\u00e7u et construit par Fulgence Bienven\u00fce fonctionne \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, \u00e9nergie radicalement novatrice pour l\u2019\u00e9poque.<\/p>\n<p>Ce dernier conna\u00eet un succ\u00e8s fulgurant (malgr\u00e9 une inauguration en catimini en juillet 1900).<\/p>\n<p>La Petite Ceinture, fortement concurrenc\u00e9e par le m\u00e9tro mais \u00e9galement par l\u2019extension des tramways hors de Paris et l\u2019apparition progressive de la traction automobile, voit son trafic d\u00e9cro\u00eetre progressivement.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9lectrification de la ligne est envisag\u00e9e, de m\u00eame qu\u2019un vaste programme de modernisation de la Petite Ceinture en vue d\u2019en d\u00e9velopper le trafic passager.<\/p>\n<p>Mais ceci aurait impos\u00e9 une diminution du trafic marchandises&nbsp;: celui-ci, plus rentable que le transport de voyageurs, n\u2019\u00e9tait pas envisageable pour les compagnies membres du Syndicat du chemin de fer de Ceinture.<\/p>\n<p>La Ligne d\u2019Auteuil est toutefois \u00e9lectrifi\u00e9e en 1925, ce qui la sauvera de la fin du trafic voyageurs.<\/p><p>Le Syndicat de Ceinture fait donc le choix de d\u00e9velopper le trafic marchandises (plus rentable) au d\u00e9triment du transport de passagers. Ce dernier p\u00e2tit de l\u2019absence de modernisation, aussi bien au niveau des trains que des gares, la plupart ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 construites 40 ans auparavant.<\/p><p>De m\u00eame, le Syndicat de Ceinture d\u00e9cide de diminuer la fr\u00e9quence des trains et de rendre plus difficiles les correspondances entre les trains circulaires et ceux des grandes gares parisiennes. Face \u00e0 ce manque d\u2019attractivit\u00e9, les passagers d\u00e9sertent la PC et se reportent sur le&nbsp;m\u00e9tro.<\/p><p>En cons\u00e9quence, le Syndicat d\u00e9cide de supprimer le trafic voyageurs de la Petite Ceinture en 1934, et d\u2019en c\u00e9der l\u2019exploitation \u2013 via le bus PC \u2013 \u00e0 la STCRP (Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Transports en Commun de la R\u00e9gion Parisienne, anc\u00eatre de la RATP).&nbsp;Les tramways seront \u00e9vinc\u00e9s de la capitale de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re en&nbsp;1937.<\/p><p>La section Ouest, de Pont-Cardinet \u00e0 Auteuil \u00e9chappe \u00e0 la fermeture gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son \u00e9lectrification en 1925, et continuera d\u2019\u00eatre exploit\u00e9e jusqu\u2019en 1985 avec les fameuses rames Standard, que beaucoup de parisiens ont bien connues.<\/p><p>\u00c0 noter que le Viaduc d\u2019Autueil, qui faisant franchir la Seine \u00e0 la PC \u00e0 l\u2019Ouest de Paris, est endommag\u00e9 par les bombardements de 1944&nbsp;: face \u00e0 la pression automobile, il est d\u00e9moli en 1959.
