Son objectif&nbsp;: b\u00e2tir une ligne de chemin de fer faisant le tour de la capitale en longeant les fortifications de Thiers (lesquelles ont totalement disparu aujourd\u2019hui) et reliant les diff\u00e9rentes gares parisiennes entre&nbsp;elles.<\/p><p>Ainsi, la Petite Ceinture vise ainsi \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 un triple objectif&nbsp;:<\/p><ul><li>Faciliter le transport de troupes \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur du mur d\u2019enceinte de&nbsp;Paris&nbsp;;<\/li><li>Relier les r\u00e9seaux des diff\u00e9rentes compagnies de chemin de fer desservant Paris pour le transport de marchandises et des passagers.<\/li><li>Enfin, le r\u00e9seau ferroviaire fran\u00e7ais s\u2019\u00e9tant construit en \u00e9toile autour de Paris pendant la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XIX<sup class=\"ordinal\">e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, il s\u2019agissait de permettre aux trains de passer d\u2019un r\u00e9seau \u00e0 l\u2019autre sans rupture de charge.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-b43ab48 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"b43ab48\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-708058c\" data-id=\"708058c\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9bffb6b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9bffb6b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Le \u00ab&nbsp;chemin de fer de ceinture&nbsp;\u00bb, pour reprendre l\u2019expression de l\u2019\u00e9poque, voit ainsi le jour en 1851, quelques jours apr\u00e8s le coup d\u2019\u00c9tat donnant naissance au Second Empire de Napol\u00e9on III. Elle se compose de trois tron\u00e7ons d\u2019une longueur d\u2019ensemble de 31 kilom\u00e8tres 510 m\u00e8tres&nbsp;:<\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Au Nord de Paris, la section La Chapelle \u2013 Batignolles (inaugur\u00e9e en&nbsp;1852)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">\u00c0 l\u2019Est, la Petite Ceinture Rive Droite (section La Chapelle \u2013 La R\u00e2p\u00e9e-Bercy, ouverte en&nbsp;1854)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u00c0 l\u2019Ouest, la ligne d\u2019Auteuil (Pont-Cardinet \u2013 Auteuil-Boulogne, inaugur\u00e9e en&nbsp;1854)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #339966;\">Au Sud, la Petite Ceinture Rive Gauche (section Auteuil-Boulogne \u2013 La R\u00e2p\u00e9e-Bercy, ouverte \u00e0 l\u2019exploitation en&nbsp;1867)<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>La boucle est \u00ab&nbsp;boucl\u00e9e&nbsp;\u00bb en 1869 gr\u00e2ce au <span style=\"color: #993300;\">Raccordement de Courcelles.<\/span> La Petite Ceinture traverse des territoires encore peu urbanis\u00e9s, r\u00e9cemment annex\u00e9s \u00e0 Paris en&nbsp;1860.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-cb88d04 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"cb88d04\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-64fdda6\" data-id=\"64fdda6\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3b901b2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3b901b2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">De son d\u00e9veloppement\u2026<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-96c6c19 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"96c6c19\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-c7a470d\" data-id=\"c7a470d\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b8f6f5d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b8f6f5d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>L\u2019ouverture de la Petite Ceinture se fait progressivement \u00e0 partir de 1852. La Petite Ceinture est exploit\u00e9e par un Syndicat, le Chemin de fer de Ceinture de Paris, dont le si\u00e8ge est implant\u00e9 au 16 rue de Londres (Paris 9<sup class=\"ordinal\">e<\/sup>).<\/p><p>Ce syndicat regroupe les quatre compagnies priv\u00e9es ayant une gare terminus situ\u00e9e dans la capitale (les compagnies des chemins de fer du Nord, de l\u2019Est, de Paris \u00e0 Lyon et \u00e0 la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e (PLM) et de Paris \u00e0 Orl\u00e9ans).<\/p><p>Des gares locales de marchandises sont rapidement cr\u00e9\u00e9es pour approvisionner les diff\u00e9rents quartiers de la capitale&nbsp;: citons entre autres les gares de la Glaci\u00e8re-Gentilly, des Gobelins (13<sup class=\"ordinal\">e<\/sup> arrondissement), de Charonne-Marchandises (20<sup class=\"ordinal\">e<\/sup>) ou de Belleville-Villette (19<sup class=\"ordinal\">e<\/sup>).<\/p><p>Suite \u00e0 l\u2019abandon de la construction \u00e0 l\u2019Ouest d\u2019une ligne de ceinture d\u00e9di\u00e9e au transport de marchandises sur la Rive Droite, la compagnie de l\u2019Ouest (qui exploite les trains en partance de la gare Saint-Lazare), met en service en 1854 la ligne d\u2019Auteuil, la premi\u00e8re ligne de transport de passagers situ\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de&nbsp;Paris.<\/p><p>Il faut attendre 1862 pour que des trains de voyageurs circulent pour la premi\u00e8re fois sur la Petite Ceinture Rive Droite. Mais cette nouvelle ligne est rapidement victime de son succ\u00e8s, et n\u2019arrive plus \u00e0 absorber le trafic marchandises ainsi que les trains inter-r\u00e9gionaux. Aussi la Grande Ceinture est-elle inaugur\u00e9e en&nbsp;1877.<\/p><p>La mise en service de la section Rive Gauche de la Petite Ceinture en 1867 permet de faire circuler les premiers trains circulaires, entre la Gare Saint-Lazare et celle de l\u2019Avenue de Clichy.&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">La boucle est \u00ab&nbsp;boucl\u00e9e&nbsp;\u00bb en 1869, avec l\u2019inauguration d\u2019un court tron\u00e7on entre l\u2019Avenue du Clichy et la ligne d\u2019Auteuil&nbsp;: les trains peuvent enfin faire tout le tour de&nbsp;Paris.<\/span><\/p><p>Un embranchement est inaugur\u00e9 le long de la Seine pour desservir la gare du Champ de Mars&nbsp;: il emprunte le raccordement de Boulainvilliers, qui traverse la Seine et enjambe l\u2019\u00cele aux Cygnes pour rejoindre la Rive Gauche via le Pont Rouelle (aujourd\u2019hui exploit\u00e9 par le RER&nbsp;C).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-84b09f5 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"84b09f5\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ddf08da\" data-id=\"ddf08da\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb4e436 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"eb4e436\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\u2026\u00e0 son apog\u00e9e<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-741ba68 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"741ba68\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-1d6a050\" data-id=\"1d6a050\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4fce844 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4fce844\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>La Petite Ceinture se d\u00e9veloppe progressivement \u00e0 partir de 1867, au rythme des Expositions Universelles organis\u00e9es \u00e0 Paris. Celles-ci s\u2019y d\u00e9roulent tous les onze ans, en 1867, 1878, 1889 et&nbsp;1900.<\/p><p>Le d\u00e9veloppement de la Petite Ceinture est \u00e0 mettre en relation avec les projets de m\u00e9tropolitain, dont certains envisagent le prolongement des voies \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de&nbsp;Paris.<\/p><p>\u00c0 noter que jusqu\u2019en 1889, la Petite Ceinture traverse la voirie au niveau de la chauss\u00e9e, ce qui n\u2019est pas sans causer des accidents. La suppression des passages \u00e0 niveaux entra\u00eene la construction de nombreux ouvrages d\u2019art (viaducs, tunnels) et la reconstruction de plusieurs stations.<\/p><p>Le trafic de voyageurs conna\u00eet son apog\u00e9e autour de 1900, les trains transportant entre 85&nbsp;000 et 90&nbsp;000 voyageurs par jour, et jusqu\u2019\u00e0 100 000 voyageurs \u00e0 l\u2019occasion de l\u2019Exposition Universelle. En parall\u00e8le, la Petite Ceinture conna\u00eet un important trafic de marchandises.<\/p><p>Un service \u00ab&nbsp;acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9&nbsp;\u00bb est mis en \u0153uvre en 1903 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019arriv\u00e9e de locomotives \u00e0 vapeur plus puissantes, permettant de r\u00e9duire la dur\u00e9e du parcours \u00e0 1h05, soit une vitesse commerciale de 29km\/h. Les trains se succ\u00e8dent avec un \u00e9cart compris entre 5 et 10&nbsp;minutes. En comparaison, le tram 3 inaugur\u00e9 \u00e0 partir de 2006, ne permet en une heure que de faire la moiti\u00e9 du parcours seulement\u2026<\/p><p>Les trains de la Petite Ceinture sont tract\u00e9s par diff\u00e9rents types de locomotives \u00e0 vapeur, dont la 030T 21\u200a\u2013\u200a35 type 1900 montr\u00e9e ci-contre.
