nom de l\u2019ancienne commune de la <strong>Chapelle<\/strong> (aussi appel\u00e9e <strong>La Chapelle-Saint-Denis<\/strong>), partiellement int\u00e9gr\u00e9 au territoire de la ville de Paris en 1860.\u00a0<\/p><p>Elle est construite au niveau de l\u2019embranchement entre la Petite Ceinture et du r\u00e9seau Nord \u2013 qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 plusieurs fois remani\u00e9. <strong>Elle voit passer ses premiers voyageurs en 1871<\/strong>. Long de 6 km, il part des <strong>Batignolles<\/strong> (pr\u00e8s de la gare Saint-Lazare) et \u00e9tablit une jonction avec le n\u0153ud ferroviaire de la <strong>Chapelle<\/strong> (\u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de la gare du Nord).<\/p><p>Cette <strong>jonction<\/strong>\u00a0entre la <strong>Petite Ceinture<\/strong> et <strong>le r\u00e9seau de Paris-Nord<\/strong> est tr\u00e8s importante. En effet, la <strong>Compagnie du Nord<\/strong> est l\u2019une des compagnies ferroviaires les plus importantes \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque.\u00a0<\/p><p>En 1862, les premiers trains du service voyageurs de la Petite Ceinture voient le jour. Cependant, le nombre de stations est encore limit\u00e9 et cro\u00eet progressivement. Ainsi, la gare de la <strong>Chapelle-Saint-Denis<\/strong> voit ses premiers passagers en <strong>1871<\/strong>. Elle n\u2019est pas directement en correspondance avec les trains du r\u00e9seau Nord. Aussi, les passagers doivent parcourir 250 m\u00e8tres \u00e0 pied pour se rendre \u00e0 la <strong>gare du Pont-Marcadet<\/strong>. Des <strong>tramways \u00e0 vapeur<\/strong> font \u00e9galement la liaison entre la <strong>Saint-Denis<\/strong> et la <strong>gare du Nord<\/strong>, et assurent une desserte de cette gare.\u00a0<\/p><p>Le <strong>style architectural<\/strong> de la gare est tr\u00e8s proche de celui des <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/petiteceinture.org\/gares-petite-ceinture\/avenue-de-saint-ouen\/\">gares de l&rsquo;Avenue de Saint-Ouen<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0ou de <strong>Charonne<\/strong>. Le b\u00e2timent voyageur est situ\u00e9 \u00e0 cheval au-dessus des voies. La gare dispose de 2 quais, auquel vient s\u2019ajouter un 3e quai central en 1892 pour le d\u00e9but du service voyageur de la Compagnie du Nord. Une <strong>passerelle m\u00e9tallique<\/strong> et un <strong>passage souterrain<\/strong> permettent aux voyageurs de passer en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9 d\u2019un quai \u00e0 un En effet, la Compagnie du Nord construit un double-raccordement, qui vient souder ses voies \u00e0 celles de la Ceinture. Il est compos\u00e9 d\u2019une branche Est (inaugur\u00e9 le 3 novembre 1892) et d\u2019une branche Ouest (ouverte le 1er ao\u00fbt 1893), toutes deux \u00e0 2 voies.\u00a0<\/p><p>Son ouverture permet le d\u00e9but du service voyageurs de la <strong>Compagnie du Nord<\/strong> \u2013 jusqu\u2019ici assur\u00e9 par la <strong>Compagnie de l\u2019Ouest<\/strong>. Ainsi, \u00e0 partir de 1893, 4 trains par heure partent de la gare du Nord : 2 trains par heure via la branche Est et 2 trains par heure via la branche Ouest. En effet, les voyageurs du Nord peuvent se rendre directement vers le Bois de Boulogne, \u00e0 Vincennes ou \u00e0 Auteuil, sans correspondance.<\/p><p>De m\u00eame, les voyageurs peuvent directement se rendre au c\u0153ur de la capitale via la gare du Nord. Aussi, le service de la Compagnie du Nord est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l&rsquo;un des tout premiers services m\u00e9tropolitains de Paris \u2013 aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la Ligne Selon l\u2019hebdomadaire Le P\u00e8lerin (\u00e9dition du 2 juillet 1899), <em>\u00ab Le train n\u00b040 de Nord-Ceinture, [\u2026] qui traversait la Plaine Saint-Denis, [\u2026] a \u00e9t\u00e9 envahi subitement par l\u2019eau \u00e0 une hauteur de 4,80<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p><p><em>Le train, abrit\u00e9 \u00e0 son d\u00e9part par des ombrelles contre le soleil de juin, se trouvait, en sortant du tunnel, pris entre l\u2019eau du ciel et les eaux de l\u2019\u00e9gout collecteur. ; l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment liquide monta au-dessus des roues de la machine, entra sur les paillassons des compartiments et il venait s\u2019asseoir sur les banquettes.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/petiteceinture.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/la-chapelle-sain-denis-inondation.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1832 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/petiteceinture.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/la-chapelle-sain-denis-inondation-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/petiteceinture.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/la-chapelle-sain-denis-inondation-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/petiteceinture.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/la-chapelle-sain-denis-inondation-768x545.jpg 768w, https:\/\/petiteceinture.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/la-chapelle-sain-denis-inondation.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p><p><em>Les employ\u00e9s de la Compagnie organisaient le <strong>sauvetage des voyageurs<\/strong> en les faisant monter sur le toit des wagons pour gagner de l\u00e0, au moyen d\u2019une \u00e9chelle, le quai du chemin de fer du Nord, situ\u00e9 en contre-haut.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><p><em>Les pompiers de la <strong>caserne Ch\u00e2teau-Landon<\/strong>, mand\u00e9s imm\u00e9diatement, venaient d\u2019ailleurs tr\u00e8s vite en aide aux employ\u00e9s de la gare. Ce dernier visait r\u00e9duire les emprises et les mat\u00e9riels ferroviaires utilisables par les troupes allemandes, afin de pr\u00e9parer le <strong>d\u00e9barquement en Normandie<\/strong>. Au total, 641 civils perdent la vie lors de ce bombardement.\u00a0<\/p><p>La gare de la <strong>Chapelle-Saint-Denis<\/strong> est quasi-totalement <strong>d\u00e9truite<\/strong>, souffl\u00e9e par la violence des explosions. Cependant, la <strong>branche Est<\/strong> est <strong>davantage utilis\u00e9e que la branche Ouest<\/strong>, les \u00e9changes \u00e9tant plus nombreux entre les gares du Nord, de Lyon et d&rsquo;Austerlitz.\u00a0<\/p><p>De fait, la branche Ouest du raccordement est <strong>supprim\u00e9e lors de la construction du tron\u00e7on Nord RER B<\/strong>, qui d\u00e9marrent en <strong>1977<\/strong>. Seule subsiste donc la branche Est du raccordement. Cette derni\u00e8re continue de voir passer un certain nombre de trains vers et depuis l&rsquo;Est de la Petite Ceinture.<\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s la fin des circulations r\u00e9guli\u00e8res, en 1993, le raccordement de la Chapelle Saint-Denis continue de servir aux <strong>\u00e9changes mat\u00e9riels entre les r\u00e9seaux Nord et Est<\/strong>. Au-del\u00e0 des logements, bureaux et commerces du site de la Chapelle-International, l\u2019endroit verra passer les quelques 3500 \u00e9tudiants du p\u00f4le parisien du <strong>campus Condorcet<\/strong>, annexe de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris I (Panth\u00e9on-Sorbonne).
